Weeks 2 & 3 at the MTC

Alex is now in his fourth week at the Missionary Training Center. He is greatly enjoying his time there. The intensified training he is receiving in Japanese is grueling to say the least, but he loves the challenge.

"It's extremely hard, but it's extremely rewarding at the same time," he said in a recent letter home.

It's not all work at the MTC. Missionaries take time daily for exercise and sports like basketball, volleyball, etc. Alex and the other missionaries at the MTC also were able to celebrate the 4th of July and got to watch a great fireworks show that was taking place at the nearby BYU Cougar Stadium.

As he completed his third week, Alex sent some pictures home. Below are some selected pictures that show Alex as he is experiencing the phenomenon known as the "MTC."

Note: To see the captions, simply move your mouse pointer on top of the picture.

At the MTC, missionaries are assigned to a 'district' which is typically a group learning the same language or going to the same missionary destination. Here is ALex with his district. From Lenexa, Kansas to Tokyo, Japan, Alex spans the Pacific Ocean!

One task that Alex and other missionaries at the MTC do is work in the call center where they take media referral calls from people interested in learning more about the church. Alex after he firmly grasped a Japanese language construct!

Here Alex and Elder Utai pose in front of the Provo, Utah Temple. Here is Alex in the cafeteria sniffing the air to determine what exciting dish is being served for dinner.

One of the books Alex is using to learn how to teach in Japanese. The Japanese Hymn book that Alex uses.

When you learn Japanese, you start with the basics, just like Japanese children do. Alex and Elder Utai share a Kodak moment during class.

Um, how much longer is his address good for? If I were to put in a letter say toady (August 1st) would he still be at the MTC in Provo? When does he ship out to the Japan MTC?

Would appreciate a little more light on this subject, didn't want to send something and then not have it received.

I love to see this website, Alex. I will show my own Alex and it will give him an idea of what to expect when he goes on his mission. I would like to see at least one picture of your mom on here. She's a wonderful woman and she deserves some recognition for being such a wonderful teacher and example to you!!!
